Robert E. (Bob) Shick was born in Hardin Ohio, on June 24, 1930, to Ira and Mabel (McGinnis) Shick. He served as a tail gunner in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, then spent many years in the retail business.
Bob moved to Mount Ida where he met the love of his life, Nola (Sissy). They were married on January 5th, 1979, then spent many years running the Mt. Ida Café where they served delicious food and stimulating conversation. They treated everyone who came in as a friend. After selling the Café and semi-retiring, Bob worked at Camp Ozark. He worked on the grounds, in the kitchen, and wherever he was needed. And that was Bob-he did whatever anyone needed done. He was a true servant.
Bob and Sis were members of Faith Tabernacle where he served faithfully until health issues limited his activity.
Of all Bob’s many accomplishments, he was most proud of his family. When he married Sissy, she had 3 sons that he immediately claimed as his own. Any they loved him dearly, as well. He was a devoted husband and made it his #1 priority to take care of Sissy.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Ira & Mabel Shick, sister Eva Deal (John), brother Charles Shick (Dorothy), sister Wanda Moser (Robert), and sister Helen Laubis (Richard). Bob is survived by his loving wife, Nola (Sis) Shick of Mt Ida, sister Betty Moorehead (Jack) of Ohio, 3 sons Larry Bryant of Camden, South Carolina, Rodney Bryant of Hot Springs, and Tommy Bryant (Lisa) of Beebe, 4 grandchildren Courtney Taylor, Jessica (Matt) Steele, Leslie (Zack) Lewis, Lawson (Carissa) Bryant, and 7 great-grandchildren Savannah Lehman, Tanner Lehman, Hadley Taylor, Harper Steele, Emma Lewis, Adi Lewis and Tucker Lewis. Bob also leaves behind many nieces and nephews that he spoke of often and fondly. Louann and Mike were especially dear to him.
For the last year, Bob has been a resident of Mt. Ida Nursing Home. We want to thank Tommy and his staff for providing excellent care of him.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 15, 2022, 10:00 am at the Standridge Cemetery with a graveside service at 11:00 am, with Bro. Don Vaughn officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Thornton Funeral Service in Mt. Ida. Guest register at www.thorntonfh.com
