Arthur Donald Shrout, 66, of Story, Arkansas went to meet his Lord and Savior on July 10, 2019. He was born April 1, 1953 in Visalia, CA to his parents Arthur Shrout and Shirley Maxon Scrimshire. Donald is preceded in death by his wife, Kaye Phillips Shrout, mother; Shirley Maxon Scrimshire, foster mother; Nora Mayberry, brother; Duane Pace, and foster sister; Helen Mayberry.
Donald is survived by daughter; Donne Kay Compton (Randy), brothers; Daniel Scrimshire (Carolyn), Mack Scrimshire (Sandra), and Russell Scrimshire (Lisa), sister; Rosetta Lenard (Ronny), granddaughter; Hallie KayLee Compton, grandson; Kyle Compton, and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Don was a caring and compassionate man who desired to help others and devote his life to furthering the kingdom of God. He often visited the sick in the hospital and prayed with members of the community. When Jed Harper was diagnosed with Cancer, he and Kaye went to pray for him daily. God used Don in a mighty way to strengthen, heal and comfort people during their time of need.
Growing up in the rural area of Story, Don knew the struggles of poverty as a child. It was his desire that children never go hungry. With this desire close to his heart he and Kaye opened God’s New Storehouse Food Bank. They worked tirelessly to provide food for the children and families in the community. Running a food bank took time and money and with the help of the community and local volunteers they were able to make a significant impact in the Story community.
Don was a foster child at the age of 14, following the death of his mother. He was taken into the home of Nora and Frank Mayberry. They provided shelter and care for him until he married Kaye Phillips in the Fall of November 1974. Kaye was the love of his life and he was devoted to his partner for life. In the Spring of 1976 Kaye gave birth to a daughter Donne Kay Shrout. Don was a loving father for 43 years and became a loving grandpa to her daughter Hallie KayLee Compton. Don would proudly tell anyone who listen, that Hallie was his only grandchild and that she has his eyes.
Last week, Donald’s trials on earth were but a flash as he ascended into heaven to meet Jesus. Standing inside the gates of Heaven was the love of his life Kaye. He was also reunited with the amazing family members who proceeded him in death.
