Bobby Barrett passed from this life on May 16, 2022, at the age of 87. Bobby was born on January 8, 1935, to Sam and Francis Barrett.
Bobby was a coach and an educator for many years before serving as Superintendent of Mount Ida Schools for 17 years. As a coach & administrator, he influenced the lives of so many. For those lives that he touched, he was always referred to, by them, as Mr. Barrett. For so many he was a mentor and will be fondly remembered and respected as such for years to come.
Bobby was also a loving Husband, Father, Father-In-Law, Grandad and Great Grandad. In 1955 he married the love of his life, Theda Irons and had a son, Randy Barrett. Bobby and Theda were together for over 63 years. Since Theda’s passing in 2017, he has so very much longed to see her and now we find peace in knowing that they are together once again.
Bobby was preceded in death by his wife, Theda, his parents, Sam and Francis Barrett and his sister, Mary Edna Harper. He is survived by his brother, Tommy Barrett, his son, Randy Barrett (Cheryl), grandchildren, Michael Barrett, Randi Michelle Hickman (Blake), Dakota Barrett (Kendra), great grandson, Barrett Carr, great granddaughter, Hadleigh Barrett and step great grandchildren, Preston and Bristol Hickman. He loved his family dearly and in return they loved him and cherished every moment they had with him. He loved horses and most especially Team Penning with his son, Randy and daughter-in-law, Cheryl and watching his grandkids excel in any endeavor they pursued. He will truly be missed but leaves behind so many fond memories to treasure.
Pallbearers are Michael Barrett, Skeeter Uselton, Doyel O’Neal, Jeff Wilson, Kevin Wilson and Paul Childress.
In lieu of flowers, an account has been set up at Southern Bancorp in Mount Ida to purchase a flagpole with a plaque “In Memory of Bobby Barrett” to be installed at his favorite place, RanCher Arena. There will also be a fund established in his name, for college scholarships, to be awarded each year.
