Bernice Johnston

Bernice (Tedford) Johnston, 93, of Story, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2022, at the Montgomery County Nursing Home in Mount Ida. She was born February 6, 1929, in Union Hill, Arkansas, to Dewil Tedford and Allie Marie (Cole) Reed. She is predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Wint Johnston, (May 28, 2012); brothers, Sherleen Reed and Garvin Tedford.

Bernice is survived by her daughter, Judy (Ron) Chesser, son, Neil (Adriana) Johnston; two grandchildren, Randy Wyatt and Tanda (Trey) Stoelzing, three step grandchildren, Kim (John) Lindgren, Chip Chesser and Johel Alvarez; six great-grandchildren, Brooke and Sophie Wyatt, Emma Kate, Luke, Charlie and Finn Stoelzing; three step great-grandchildren, Ally, Jeff and Will Lindgren; one step great-great granddaughter; Mila Pierre; sister, Alidene Ragan; brother, Bill (Pat) Reed, nieces, nephews and host of other family and friends.

Bernice retired from Camp Ozark after many enjoyable years.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 24, 2022, 5:00-7:00 pm at Thornton Funeral Home Chapel. The Memorial Service will be Wednesday, May 25, 2022, 10:00 am at Prairie Grove Church of God in Story, Arkansas, where Bernice was the last living Charter Member. Bro. Ed Depriest will officiate the service. Pallbearers: Randy Wyatt, Ron Chesser, Bill Reed, Cole Reed, Tommy Johnston, and Ernie Johnston; Honorary Pallbearers: Gene Monk, Galen Burke, Terry Kinsey, Ricky Summitt, Jerry Summitt and Sam Torn.

The family would like to thank the Montgomery County Nursing Home for the compassionate care provided; neighbors, Lillian Whiley and the Chaffin family, for all you did for our mom; Evea Lee Pinkonsley for providing excellent care for mom during her last several months at home and to Jane White, who faithfully visited and treated her with fresh baked cookies and bread.
