Verda Mae Alston

Verda Mae Alston, age 91, of Mount Ida, AR, passed on October 6th, 2019 at home with family by her side. She was loved by many and liked by anyone that ever met her.

She was born Verda Mae Wright on February 13th, 1928 to A.T and Susie (Pate) Wright in Mount Ida, AR. She is survived by her twin sons, Rudy Bates (Allison) of Mount Ida and Randy Bates (Raeann) of The Woodlands, TX and a daughter, Sarah King of Loganville, GA. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Verda spent most of her professional career as a legal secretary in Texas. Once she was able to return to Arkansas in 2000 and then to Mount Ida in 2006, she was excited to return to the Church of Christ that her father and mother helped to build in Mount Ida. She loved reading her bible, watching baseball games, painting, sewing, knitting, cooking, and working on puzzles. She always had a heart to care for her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 26th, 2019 at the Mount Ida Church of Christ. Many thanks to Jay Egleston, Lela Rogers and the Ouachita Regional Hospice organization for making her final days easier.
