Geraldine "Gerry" Fitts

Geraldine Mary Fitts
4/7/1937 – 6/29/2022

Geraldine “Gerry” Fitts of Mount Ida, AR passed peacefully in her home on 6/29/2022.
To say Gerry was a firecracker would be an understatement. Gerry was born and raised in St. John’s Newfoundland where she met and married her first husband, an American Airman, with whom she had her 6 children with. Their adventures brought them to eventually settle in
Lompoc, CA where her children grew up. The infamous stories are of nightly dinners around the table, which still sits in her home today. Gerry worked most of her life in the service industry and was not afraid to get her hands dirty. She would be quick to regale you with stories of slinging kegs behind the bar and her sassy approach to customer service. This vibrant personality
is what won the attention of Doug who eventually asked her on a date to a Dodgers game – an outing she could not pass on. They fell fast, married in 1984, and led a life of world travels with Doug’s work as a union electrician. Upon retirement they settled in Mount Ida, AR. Gerry did not take retirement as a free pass to sit idle and spent hours in the yard and using every coupon
she was sent in the mail because, as she would say, “it’s like free money!”. Gerry
played an integral role in the lives of her granddaughters in Mount Ida and never missed
a game or event no matter the distance. Gerry also never forgot a birthday and would
never miss an opportunity to mail a card to you (often with a little cash in it). If you forgot
to mail her a card she would remind you “they only cost $1 at the dollar store”. Gerry
loved her family fiercely and would do anything for them. Gerry was most happy with a
table full of family and friends laughing and playing games. Coming to visit grandma
always meant a full belly and a belly full of laughs. Gerry would do for others before
herself and would argue if you tried to lend a hand to her. Gerry’s absence will be felt
deeply by those that love her and memories of time with her are going to be cherished
forever.

Gerry is preceded in death by her father Richard Quirk and her mother Rose Quirk both
of St. John’s Newfoundland, sister Doreen Pollack, and infant daughter Karron
Cummins. Gerry is survived by her husband Doug Fitts, her children Sharron (Dave)
Van Heusen, Rick (Cheryl) Cummins, Michael (Linda) Cummins, Kenny Cummins, and
Terri (Larry) Jones. Grandchildren Jason Davis, Nikki (Derek) Sanford, Carter
Cummins, Mitchell Cummins, Lauren (Mike) Hicks, Lindsay Cummins, Christina (Jerrod)
Davidson, and Robyn (Shan) Webster. Great-grandchildren Gage Sanford, Kane

Sanford, Jayce Sanford, Ella Davidson, Elijah Davidson, and Chandler Webster-
Whitaker. As well as her sister Maxine (Bernard) Sheehan. Gerry also leaves a large
extended family and friends including her inherited family when she married Doug.
