Alta Marie Shaw

Alta Marie Hatton Shaw, age 93, of Sims, AR, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, January 30, 2021 at the Montgomery County Nursing Home. She was born December 7, 1927 to the late Charley and Mattie Hatton in Sims, AR.

Alta was the last surviving child of ten children. She was married to the late Irvin Shaw for 74 years prior to his death. She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters Willie, Loyd, Floyd, Hewlos, Ray, Ophia Gray, Beula West, Lester Gibbs, and Lena Stovall. She was also preceded by sons-in-law (that she treated like sons) Raze Rowland, Alton Tiner, and Dub Clenney.

Survivors include daughter Pauline Rowland, Wanda Clenney, and DeVonia (Mike) Rowland; granddaughters Alice (Derek) Summitt, Deana (Wes) Cole, Cheri (Chris) Clenney; great grandchildren Breanna Tidwell, Will Cole, Maddie and Gracie Summitt. She is also survived by a host of very special nieces and nephews that she loved very much.

Graveside service will Tuesday, February 2nd, 2021, 2:00 pm, at Rocky Cemetery with Bro. Ed Depriest officiating.


Pallbearers will be Wes Cole, Aaron Hatton, Will Cole, Derek Summitt, and her "Gray Boys" Bruce, Chris and Jeff. Honorary pallbearers; Brent Johnson, Terry Kinsey, David White, Michael White and the staff of Montgomery Nursing Home.

Alta was a happy woman and much loved by her family and friends. She was a devout Christian woman who shouted in church when the spirit moved her. All of us have fond memories especially about biscuits, gravy, dumplings and fried chocolate fried pies.
